One of the advantages of bringing home a slightly older puppy is that some of those early training foundations are already underway.

I’ve been working with Nita every day, and I’m really pleased with the progress she’s making.

🚽 Potty Training – Approximately 95% at My House!

Nita’s potty training is going wonderfully!

At this point, I’d say she’s about 95% potty trained in my home.

She’s learning our routine and doing very well with it.

Of course, moving into a new home means learning a new schedule, new doors, and a new place to go potty. Her new family will need to continue working with her and give her time to adjust.

But she already has a great start!

💤 Crate Training – A Comfortable Place to Rest

This is another area where Nita is doing especially well.

When it’s time to go into her crate, she goes right in, settles down quickly, and goes to sleep.

I can crate her during the day without any problems, and she sleeps in her crate every night.

She’s become comfortable with this routine, which should give her new family a helpful foundation to build on.

🚗 Car Rides – Relaxed and Ready to Travel

Nita has also been doing wonderfully with car rides!

I always transport her in a secured travel kennel for safety.

Once she’s in her kennel, she settles down quickly and generally sleeps through the ride.

Whether we’re heading out for a socialization adventure or simply going for a drive, she has been a very easy little traveling companion.

🌎 Exploring the World – Nita’s Socialization Adventures

Socialization is about much more than simply meeting other dogs.

It’s also about helping puppies become familiar with the sights, sounds, people, and everyday activities they’ll experience throughout their lives.

I’ve been taking Nita out to different places so she can safely experience more of the world.

Because she’s received two sets of puppy vaccinations but hasn’t completed her full puppy vaccination series, I’m careful about where and how she’s exposed to public environments.

Depending on where we go, Nita rides in a wagon or shopping cart so she can observe her surroundings without walking on potentially contaminated public surfaces.

And she seems to love it!

👀 A Little People Watcher

One of the things I’ve noticed about Nita is how much she enjoys simply watching the world go by.

When we’re out in public, she’s often perfectly happy sitting and watching people walk past, taking in everything happening around her.

She’s met different people, received lots of friendly attention, and has also seen other dogs without showing much concern.

I love seeing her enjoy these experiences.

As she finishes her vaccinations and continues growing, her new family can build on these early outings with guidance from their veterinarian.
